I had an invite to be elsewhere this weekend but the forecast looked awful and its never good to spend a load of time and cash driving for something not to happen so I decided to stay home. Saturday afternoon im sat at rest bay in the car looking out over the beach wishing I had an ice cream and Pete gets me on the phone. A few words later and he’s convinced me to go into the hills back to our spot for a session the next day, when the wind is low its the only place worth going. Pete got to mine that night and after a few beers and a film we went to bed planning on an early start in the morning. Its not a nice walk up the side of the mountain but its worth it, well I guess it would be a nice walk if your not carrying a scrub board bag on your back full of kit (it weighs roughly the same as me). There wasn’t much wind about up there at first but as the sun got higher in the sky it started to pick up and we were able to do some nice free riding using the kites to gut up the slopes and then rolling down on the board. It picked up some more and we went up to the highest point we fly from it’s the final slope before the summit and you get a great view from up there. The camera came out and what followed can only be described as hang time. At the point where my board comes off im trying to come down, it didn’t work and all I can think is that if I don’t land soon the hill drops away very fast over the next stretch and my next safe point to land is going to the be the reservoir at the bottom. Sure pulling a safety in the air is a bad idea but it was a hot day and the water did look quite cooling. Keep your eyes posted for the full vid coming soon.
